Community Language Learning👥.

Imagen
Hello there! Welcome back  🌼 ✨ So, this is our last method (of the first register at least) but this doesn't mean that it is not important, today we will talk about, Community Language Learning 🌱 .  The CLL method was created by Charles Curran, and as the name mentions, the purpose of this one is to work as a community. In this, you basically need to learn with and from your classmates, as our teacher says: "my tribe backs me up."🐺🐺🐺 This method offers a non-threatening environment to express yourself since you will probably feel confident or secure with your classmates 🫂 . Here, everything flows naturally so there's no need of having a lot of preparation ✨ . To practice this, we had to discuss in several groups one thing we had in common (we decided to talk about the zodiac), we had to record ourselves and later on, we had to use our conversation to teach something, this could be pronunciation, grammatical structures, etc. Speaking is the main focus of this m...

Suggestopedia🎶.

Hello, hello, hello, welcome😁!  Today's method is... Suggestopedia 🥳 🥳. Yep, that's right. Remember how in my last entry I told you about teacher Orlando playing different background music? well, it was all because of this method! This method was proposed around the 1970s by Georgi Lozanov 🤓 .   And it's basically a method of teaching a foreign language in which students learn quickly by feeling relaxed, interested, and positive. Lozanov also said that the affective filter was very crucial for this method. This basically consists of being good in all aspects (emotionally and physically) to be able to learn without any distractions😊😊. As a practice for this method, we listened to different background music and we had to do different things such as, write about our last vacation, draw something that the music inspires you, and come up with a list of farm animals and then compare our list with the animals mentioned in a specific song. 💥 Here are some pictures ...

Total Physical Response 🕺🏻.

Hello! It's been a few days since the last entry🤔 Welcome back!!! 🤩 🤩 Today I'm here to tell you a little bit about what we learned in class, and honestly, it's one of the most fun methods so far, and it's called  Total Physical Response (TPR).  🏃🏻‍♀️ This method was created by James Asher, and it consists of teaching language through physical activity because the more often a memory connection is traced, the stronger the memory association and the more likely it will be remembered🧠.  For this method, we can use different tools such as different songs and the principal idea, and the use of imperatives (short commands) to indicate what the student needs to do 🗣️ 🎶 . This method is very dynamic, so it can turn the classroom really loud, but honestly, I think it's worth it haha😉. Another thing, important to mention, is that with this method you can take advantage of what is happening around you to introduce new vocabulary🫣. To practice this method, teach...

Valentine's Day 🥰💕.

Imagen
Happy Valentine's Day!!! 💘 Today's entry is a little bit different than the last ones. Today is Valentine's Day and we were supposed to have our Didactics class but it got canceled. Either way, we still had to go to the university because we had another class, so we took the opportunity to celebrate Valentine's with my group of friends and I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about our day 😍 💛 .                                                Jonathan got all of the girls in the group some flowers made out of fabric, and I got a sunflower because everyone knows that I love them🌻, Nathaly gave us some handmade notes with cute keychains inside🥰, Dani gave us heart shape alfajores🤤, and I brought cookies for everyone and got myself some roses💖.                It was honestly such a nice day, and if I dar...

The Silent Way 🤫.

Imagen
Hello! Welcome again to my English Didactics blog!  💐 ✨ Today, I will tell you about another interesting method that we learned in class, and that is... The Silent Way  😶. The Silent Way was founded around the 1970s by a mathematician and educator named Caleb Gattegno 👨🏻‍🏫 . He believed that language learning could be done in 3 different ways: Discovering rather than teaching. Problem-solving in the target language. Use of physical tools. Some of the main ideas or principles of this method are that you only need to help the student when necessary because the whole point of this is for the student to be able to solve their own problems or challenges so they can learn more (this method believes that the more you help, the less they learn) . Another thing very important to mention is that here, progress is better than perfect; so basically it doesn't matter if you make a mistake, you still learn from it 🥳 .  The Silent Way also works using different techniq...

The Audiolingual Method 🫡.

Imagen
Hello friend! it's nice to know that you are here once again 🥰. Are you ready to review another method? I hope so 👀. Today as we saw in our class, we are talking about The Audiolingual Method (also known as The Army Method). Called the "Army Method" because the armies needed to become orally proficient😳. The Audiolingual Method emphasizes the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing. It uses dialogues as the main form of language presentation and doesn't use the mother tongue when teaching in a classroom💬. In this class, we studied some techniques that we can apply to this method and they are: Repetition drill: Students are asked to repeat after the teacher  (usually dialogues) Substitution drill: The students change a certain word that the teacher says in a dialogue. Question and Answer drill: Students answer the teacher's questions quickly. Transformation drill: Students are asked to change sentences. (+ to - or viceversa)  One thin...

The Direct Method 🧠.

Imagen
Hello, how are you?👀 Welcome once again 😋 I hope you are having a great day, afternoon, or night! Today I bring you another important teaching method, and as you probably already read, today we are talking about  The Direct Method (also called the "natural method"). The Direct Method was established in Germany and France around 1900 and proposed by Maximilian Berlitz, it is the second fundamental method, but the difference between this one and the GTM is the Direct Method focuses more on listening and speaking 👂🏼 🗣️. The main idea of this method is that learning a second language should be like first language learning, meaning that it should have lots of oral interaction, and spontaneous use of language✨. It is also taught inductively, which means that it works based on context. Some of its characteristics are that everyday vocabulary is taught, helps with correct grammar and pronunciation, you can have better social skills, and can start a conversation easier🤩.  B...

The Grammar Translation Method ✍🏼.

Imagen
Hello! Welcome back to my blog! 🌼✨ It is nice to know that you are here after getting to know a little bit about me! But here, we officially start our English Didactics journey, exciting!🤩 The first things we are learning about are the different types of language teaching methods, and to make this a little interesting, I will be telling you a little bit about the method, how we put it in practice in my class and maybe show you some pictures or videos here and there 👀.  The first method we are talking about is (as you guessed by the title),  The Grammar Translation Method (TGTM). This method is one of the two fundamental methods out there and it's considered traditional teaching. The GTM was proposed by Professor Karl Plotz around the 19th century, and it focuses more on reading and writing skills ✍🏼 📖. As the name of the method mentions, it uses a lot of translation exercises for teaching, which helps students learn about the right application of grammar and correct...

About me 💛 .

Hello there 👀, welcome to my English Didactics blog! It's a pleasure for me that you are here, reading me, and wanting to know about English Didactics and my learning process. But before we start, I would love for you to get to know me at least a little bit.😊 My name is Miriam Aguilar, I'm from tiny and tropical El Salvador🌴, and I'm a 22-year-old translation and interpretation student. I'm in the last year of my major, which is very exciting and nerve-racking, and I love learning new things. Some of my interests (besides language learning) are reading, writing, and photography; basically, I love anything related to art because I think it's the best way to release our emotions and be connected with ourselves and our surroundings 💭. So I think this blog will be a great way for me to express myself and also for you to get to know a little more about me between letters.  👆🏻 Feel free to leave a comment, question, etc, whenever you want to. I would totally love to...
