The Audiolingual Method 🫡.

Hello friend! it's nice to know that you are here once again 🥰.

Are you ready to review another method? I hope so 👀. Today as we saw in our class, we are talking about The Audiolingual Method (also known as The Army Method).

Called the "Army Method" because the armies needed to become orally proficient😳. The Audiolingual Method emphasizes the teaching of listening and speaking before reading and writing. It uses dialogues as the main form of language presentation and doesn't use the mother tongue when teaching in a classroom💬.

In this class, we studied some techniques that we can apply to this method and they are:

  • Repetition drill: Students are asked to repeat after the teacher (usually dialogues)
  • Substitution drill: The students change a certain word that the teacher says in a dialogue.
  • Question and Answer drill: Students answer the teacher's questions quickly.
  • Transformation drill: Students are asked to change sentences. (+ to - or viceversa)

One thing that it is important to mention is that this method is very much still around, but it is nowadays more used in individual lessons rather than being a base of a whole class☝🏼. As well as the other methods, this one has its ups and downs. The good things about it are that relies on memory to learn vocabulary, and it can improve your pronunciation📈. And some of the not-so-good things are that it lacks the vocabulary to fully communicate and you always need to have a dynamic class📉.

As practice in our class, the teacher showed us different examples of each one of the drills and it was really useful to put it into practice and get familiar with it. And well, this has been all for today, this was a very short but straight-to-the-point explanation! Thank you for reading me, feel free to comment whenever you want😊. Byeee! 👋🏻💛

Also, here's a picture of me excited to start the class,
because so far it's one of my favorite classes!!!😋

Alright, byeeee 😂
